Nu Genea turns Naples into a musical port. Synthesizers, percussion, acoustic instruments, disco, funk, boogie, dub and voices rooted in home meet songs that keep looking towards many other shores.
Massimo Di Lena and Lucio Aquilina began with an almost archaeological curiosity: tracing the journeys of dance music and hearing how sounds change as they cross cities, languages and generations. Nuova Napoli and Bar Mediterraneo are excellent ways into their world.
We are especially drawn to their idea of the bar as an open place. A space does not lose its identity when different influences enter; it can become more itself when it knows how to welcome them, mix them and let them speak without erasing their origins.
That is why Nu Genea belongs in Baristas. The music has joy and movement, but also a real care for detail. It changes a room, invites people to stay and reminds us that community begins when different cultures, conversations and rhythms find a shared table.
